The 5 Mistakes Every New Driver Makes
Mistake #1: Thinking You're Better Than You Are
Every new driver goes through a "confidence peak" — usually around the 6-month mark. You've mastered the basics. You feel invincible. You push the speed. You tailgate without realizing it.
This is the most dangerous phase of a driver's life.
The fix: Know your car's actual stopping distance. Not the one in the manual — the real one on wet roads with your tires. Test it in an empty parking lot. The number will humble you.
Mistake #2: Looking Only at the Car Directly Ahead
Your eyes should be scanning 3-4 cars ahead, not just one. The brake lights three cars up tell you what's coming before the car in front of you reacts. This gives you seconds of extra reaction time. In traffic, seconds are everything.
