Driving in Rain, at Night, and in Heavy Traffic
Rain and Night: The Golden Rule
If you can't see the car behind you clearly in your mirrors, do NOT change lanes.
Before every lane change in rain or darkness:
- Confirm mirror visibility. If rain or fog has obscured your mirrors, fix that first — defroster, wipers, heated mirrors.
- Check blind spots twice. Not once. Twice.
- Know how to use your defogger and heated mirrors before you need them. Fumbling with buttons at 60 mph means you've already lost.
